Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust has decided to rebrand its Sobremesa line, which will now be known as Sobremesa Solita. The change was announced by Steve Saka, the company’s founder, via Facebook.
The name “Solita” is derived from the Spanish word for “little sun,” reflecting the cigar’s Sungrown Habana capa cultivated in Ecuador’s cloud-covered valleys.
Saka emphasized that the original Sobremesa line had been in the market for eight years, and this rebranding reflects the cigar’s enduring presence.
The rebranding also includes changes to the vitola names within the Sobremesa line:
- Sobremesa Robusto Largo is now named Sobremesa Solita Robusto.
- Sobremesa El American is transformed into the Sobremesa Sobremesa Solita Toro.
- Sobremesa Elegante en Cedros has been renamed the Sobremesa Solita Churchill.
- The Sobremesa Short Churchill retains its name but changes its packaging to a 14-count box.
Regrettably, the Sobremesa Cervantes Fino is being discontinued, though Saka expressed his personal fondness for this vitola. Remaining stocks are limited, and there are no plans for future production.
The blend of the Sobremesa Solita line remains unchanged. It features an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, a Mexican Matacapan Negro de Temporal binder, and a filler composed of Nicaraguan GK Condega C-SG, Pueblo Nuevo Criollo, La Joya Estelí C-98, and ASP Estelí Hybrid Ligero, along with Pennsylvania-grown broadleaf ligero.
Alongside the name change, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is updating the packaging. Some vitolas will now be available in 13-count boxes, replacing the previous 25-count boxes. The Short Churchill will continue to be offered in its 14-count box.
The new packaging is set to be introduced in 2024, with a more specific date to be announced. These changes represent an evolution of the Sobremesa Solita, offering a fresh perspective on an established classic.
