PCA Ends Media Member Dues for Trade Show Access

Premium-Cigar-Association

The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) has declared a significant change in its policy by discontinuing media member dues to access the organization’s annual trade show, starting in 2024. Previously, media members were required to pay annual dues of $450, categorizing them as “industry partners,” akin to cigar brokers, distributors, and suppliers.

While media members will no longer have to pay dues, they will still need to apply for a specialized media badge to attend the trade show. This application process entails submitting prior work, such as articles and videos, to confirm the applicant’s involvement in covering the cigar industry. This policy mirrors PCA’s approach in the early 2010s when the organization was known as the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR).

Additionally, the PCA is amending its show floor access policies, allowing media members to enter at the same time as exhibitors, eliminating the need to wait for the official start time. Media badges will also provide access to the trade show’s opening reception.

The PCA explained that this policy change was in response to feedback from “numerous media” regarding membership costs and media attendance at the trade show. The PCA aims to prevent misuse of media registration and ensure that badges intended for exhibitors are not given to media members.

Crowned Heads has added a new vitola to its Mil Días line, available exclusively through JR Cigar. It’s known as the Mil Días MDP55, aptly named for its dimensions: 5 1/2 x 55. This particular vitola features a box-pressed design, distinguishing it from the rest of the line.

Regarding its blend, the Mil Días MDP55 showcases an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, enveloping a Nicaraguan binder. The fillers are thoughtfully sourced from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Peru, resulting in a complex and flavorful combination.

JR Cigar is currently offering the Mil Días MDP55 in boxes of 12 at a price of $135.99, equating to approximately $11.33 per cigar. Importantly, Crowned Heads has clarified that despite its exclusivity, this is considered a regular production item that JR Cigar can continue to reorder.

The Mil Días line is crafted at the TacaNicsa factory, under the leadership of Eradio Pichardo. Notably, this factory is situated in the same building as Tabacalera Pichardo, where the Mil Días line initially debuted.

NewAir x Boveda 500 Count Electric Cigar Humidor Now Available

NewAir, known for its line of refrigerated devices, and Boveda, famous for their two-way humidification packets, have joined forces to introduce a new cigar humidor for enthusiasts. The NewAir x Boveda 500 Count Electric Cigar Humidor is the latest addition to NewAir’s range of cooled cigar storage solutions, and it’s now available for $699.99.

Cigar enthusiasts have long been adapting wine coolers into makeshift humidors to control both humidity and temperature. This is especially useful in warmer climates where elevated temperatures can result in issues like cigar beetles. About a decade ago, companies like NewAir began to directly offer products tailored to cigar aficionados.

The NewAir x Boveda 500 Count Electric Cigar Humidor represents a significant step in this direction. The unit’s exterior dimensions measure 17.72 inches x 16.93 x 29.13, with an internal volume of 1.78 cubic feet. Inside, you’ll find four pull-out Spanish cedar shelves and two pull-out trays.

What’s new with this model is the peg system incorporated into the shelves. This system provides more customization options for storing loose cigars while preventing them from rolling out of the humidor. According to NewAir, this is the only model in their lineup to use this feature.

The humidor comes with three Boveda holders attached to the bottom of the trays, and each holder can accommodate three 60-gram Boveda packs, which is the standard size, for a total of nine packs. Additional packs can also be added in different areas of the humidor.

The bottom drawer is the larger of the two and includes removable dividers for better organization.

Temperature control is facilitated by a digital touchscreen that allows users to set the temperature within the range of 54-72°F. The refrigeration system requires the unit to be plugged into a standard wall outlet.

Furthermore, the humidor boasts several features not commonly found in desktop humidors, including LED lighting, a recessed handle, tempered glass, and a substantial weight of over 50 pounds.

The NewAir x Boveda 500 Count Electric Cigar Humidor is available at a price of $699.99, and customers purchasing directly from NewAir will receive three 60-gram Boveda packs with their order. Please note that units sold through other retailers will not include these packs. NewAir began shipping these units earlier this week.

Leaf-by-Oscar-Limited-Edition-2018-Barber-Pole

Cigora, the online cigar retailer, has received the Leaf by Oscar Limited Edition 2018. This cigar, initially available only in the Asian market between 2018-2020, features a barber pole design.

The Leaf by Oscar Limited Edition 2018 employs a blend made up of a Mexican San Andrés wrapper and a Honduran-grown Connecticut wrapper, both crafted into a barber pole pattern. These wrappers encase a Honduran binder and filler, delivering a medium-bodied smoking experience known for its flavor notes of cream, cinnamon, leather, earth, and dark chocolate.

This limited edition cigar is available in two vitolas: a 6 x 54 toro priced at $212.99 for a bundle of 20 cigars, and a 6 x 60 gordo available at $229.99 per bundle of 20 cigars. While the exact production numbers remain undisclosed, the cigar is considered a limited-time offering, with an estimated 3,500 bundles created when it was exclusively released in the Asian market. Cigora, which now offers this cigar, is owned by the Scandinavian Tobacco Group, a company with various other cigar brands under its umbrella.
