Following the success of the first two Single Cask Nation Cigar projects released in 2019 and 2021, this third release continues the tradition of blending high-quality Nicaraguan tobacco with the distinct flavors of bourbon and rye selected by Single Cask Nation.

Terence Reilly, VP of Sales and Marketing at Aganorsa Leaf, discussed the intricate process involved in creating these barrel-aged cigars. He noted that the process, which typically takes two years, requires meticulous attention to detail and supervision to ensure the barrel’s contribution to the cigar’s flavor and aroma is just right.

Joshua Hatton, Co-Founder and CEO of Single Cask Nation, expressed his excitement about the third collaborative cigar. As whisky enthusiasts first and cigar smokers second, Hatton mentioned the involvement of their Cigar Czar, Yoni Miller, in working closely with Aganorsa Leaf. He highlighted the harmonious pairing of the bourbon cask’s qualities with the chosen tobaccos, enhancing the overall smoking experience. He also mentioned the cigar’s pairing with their Charitable “Good Ride ‘Tanks for Troops’” bourbon, in collaboration with Carey Hart, as an exemplary combination.

Miller added that this batch differs from the previous ones, with the barrel influence more pronounced in the mouthfeel and lingering flavor, creating a unique finish and maturation for the cigar.

The Mark Littler Shop is currently offering the Glenfarclas 1953 58 Year Old Wealth Solutions #1674 for purchase, a rare find in the whisky market. Glenfarclas distillery, renowned for its long-aged whiskies, has no remaining stock distilled before 1953, making this vintage particularly sought after among collectors.

The Glenfarclas 1953, distilled on 20th November 1953 and bottled on 13th February 2012, is 70 years old as of this week. This single malt whisky comes from a single sherry butt, cask number #1674.

A panel of whisky experts and connoisseurs, including Serge Valentin of WhiskyFun, Ben Ellefsen of Master of Malt, Michał Kowalski of Wealth Solutions, and George Grant of the Grant family which owns Glenfarclas, handpicked this specific cask from four tasted for bottling and sale through Wealth Solutions in Poland.

Only 400 bottles of the Glenfarclas 1953 58 Year Old were released, making them extremely rare, especially in the UK market. The bottle is priced at £5,151 and is available on the Mark Littler Shop for those interested in acquiring some of the oldest remaining stock from Glenfarclas.

The Perfect Fifth Launches Oran Blended Scotch Whisky

The Perfect Fifth, an American independent Scotch Whisky bottler, has introduced Oran, a new line of blended Scotch Whisky. These blends have been created by Jim Murray, a renowned whisky critic and the author of “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.” Murray’s collaboration with The Perfect Fifth marks his first public role as an official blender for a company, bringing his 40 years of experience as a whisky taster, blender, and evaluator to the forefront.

Murray has crafted Oran to be an “old school” blend, aiming to replicate the style of blended whisky from around 100 years ago. Oran, which means “song” in Gaelic, represents a harmonious blend of grains and single malts. Murray’s intention with Oran is to offer delicate complexity and finely tuned balance, a nod to the era when blended Scotch was more prominently celebrated.

The initial launch includes two releases, Blend No. 1 and Blend No. 2. Both are 50-50-50 blends – 50 percent single malt Scotch Whisky, 50 percent single grain Scotch Whisky, and 50 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). Each blend is a limited release with only 465 bottles produced for each.

A total of 11 different casks were utilized in creating both blends, with some casks shared between the two but in varying ratios. Blend No. 1, made exclusively from Ex-Bourbon casks, is characterized by a light smokiness and fruitier elements on the nose, a juicy mouthfeel with spices, and a chocolatey finish. Blend No. 2 incorporates a sherried cask component, offering a sweet grassy and lush nose, a delivery of honeydew melon sweetness, and a long, linear finish with tingling spice.

Karl Schoen, founder and CEO of The Perfect Fifth, expressed that Oran is an extension of his experiences in Scotland, blending the appreciation for the country’s natural beauty with a homage to its whisky craftsmanship.

Oran Blend No. 1 and Blend No. 2 are available in limited quantities in New York, New Jersey, and California and can also be purchased online at www.theperfectfifth.com. The suggested retail price for each 700 mL bottle is $189.

Evan Williams Bourbon Experience Marks 10th Anniversary with Special Release

The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, situated on Louisville’s Whiskey Row, celebrates its 10th anniversary with the release of a commemorative edition of Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage Bourbon. Since its opening on November 15, 2013, the distillery has welcomed nearly one million guests, sharing the history of Evan Williams, Kentucky’s first distiller.

This special release, a 2013 vintage, is bottled at 110 proof to mark the anniversary. Each bottle is hand-dipped in silver wax and bears a label and tag featuring imagery of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. The bottles include handwritten label notes indicating the exact day of barreling, barrel number, and bottling date.

Jodie Filiatreau, Artisanal Distiller at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, spoke about the distillery’s role in revitalizing Whiskey Row. He described the commemorative bottle as a unique offering in line with the significance of the anniversary.

The bourbon, aged for 10 years, was barreled in August, October, or December of 2013 and matured on the second floor of Rickhouse LL at the Schenley location. It is made using Heaven Hill Distillery’s traditional bourbon mashbill, consisting of 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye.

Available starting Saturday, November 18, the limited-edition bourbon will be sold at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience for $109.99 and at select retailers while supplies last. The public is also invited to an open house at the Experience, which will include tours and tastings, as well as a block party at Repurposed on Main.

The bourbon is aged under the supervision of Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll at Heaven Hill’s rickhouses. Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage Bourbon has received five “Whiskey of the Year” awards and is considered one of the most critically acclaimed specialty bourbons produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, the second largest holder of aging bourbon globally.
